How to bring a chat into Chatlore
It takes about a minute. Chatlore shows the same steps inside the app, with a moving picture and in your phone's language.
On an iPhone
- Open WhatsApp and open the chat you want to keep.Any chat works: one person or a group.
- Tap the name at the top of the chat.This opens the chat’s details.
- Scroll down and tap .It is near the bottom of the list.
- Tap to keep photos and voice notes too.Or tap . It is quicker, with text only.
- In the list of apps, tap .Not there? Swipe the row to the end, tap , and pick Chatlore.
On an Android phone
- Open WhatsApp and open the chat you want to keep.Any chat works: one person or a group.
- Tap (three dots) at the top right.A menu opens.
- Tap , then .Export chat is in the second list.
- Tap or .Include media brings photos and voice notes. It takes a little longer.
- In the list of apps, tap .Not there? Scroll the list, or tap More.
When you pick Chatlore, your chat opens by itself. Tap Keep it, and it is saved on your phone.
If something is in the way
I don't see Export chat
Update the chat app from the App Store or Play Store, then try again. On some phones it is under the chat’s name, or under More. In a few countries the option is not available.
Chatlore isn't in the list
Swipe the row of apps to the end and tap More, then pick Chatlore. Or tap Save to Files (iPhone) or save the file to your phone, then in Chatlore tap Choose a file.
It's very big or slow
Choose Without media first. It is quick. You can add the photos later with a second export: Chatlore adds them to the same chat and never makes a copy of messages you already have.
The chat is on someone else's phone
Export it on that phone and send the file to yourself by email, Drive, AirDrop or Nearby Share. Then open the file on your phone and pick Chatlore.
Some old messages are missing
Very long chats come in parts. Export again later and Chatlore adds the newer messages.
The dates look wrong
Some phones write the month before the day. Open the chat, tap the three dots, then Chat settings and Dates look wrong? Switch. You can switch back the same way.
After that
Make a memory book
Open a chat, tap the three dots and Memory book. Choose the years, the size and the photos, then tap Make my book. The PDF is made on your phone. Print it, or save it and take it to a print shop. Turn on Print shop margin if the shop asks for bleed.
Move to a new phone
In Settings, tap Keep it safe, then Save a backup file, and save it to Files or Google Drive. On the new phone, open that file and pick Chatlore. Your chats, photos and voice notes come back.
Lock Chatlore
In Settings, turn on Lock with Face ID (or fingerprint or passcode). Chatlore then asks to unlock when you come back, and hides your chats in the app switcher.
